After having some minor success online, I decided to take my new found skill set into the real world. Since the beginning of the year I’ve played in nine live tournaments at Parq Casino here in Vancouver. I cashed thirty-three percent of the time with an average of approximately $500 in winnings. Not a bad start to the year.
I enjoy playing live far more than online. I know it sound backwards, but I seem to be able to focus a lot better live. Despite the social interaction, I find that sitting at the computer my attention is taken away by totally unrelated activities and distractions. It’s almost like the effort to go out and play makes me a more responsible player. I strongly suggest giving it a try once in a while. But always, always, always play within your limit and as a caution, get into the habit playing as if there are no re-buys. And in a perfect world, don’t.
I know this is a blog about getting to the final table in a major tournament but, if I have to be honest, it’s more about finding a part-time “job” that I truly enjoy. If by the end of the year, my wins exceed my losses by about 12K, I would be extremely happy. I have much the same attitude towards my acting career. I don’t want to be a star in either field, I just want to live a comfortable, albeit modest, life.
It’s still a beans and rice kind of month but as my confidence grows, I am hopeful that my bankroll will as well.
