Over the past two weeks, I played four live tournaments and cashed in three. It would have been four, but a call to my shove on the final table nixed that. Villian made a bad call that happened to be the right call. I was sitting in the big blind with A6 suited. UTG raised 3BB. The table folds around to me with about 10 BB and I shove. The board comes QQ6, and I shove with 2 pairs, ace kicker. Villain calls with a pair of eights, and I’m gone as I get bricked out. I can’t say I blame them as they were chip leader and probably figured I was shoving ace high. On the plus side, I managed to pick up two $25 bounties, so the day’s fun only cost me $65, including the $5 add-on for the dealers.
I have been playing well live, but unfortunately, my online games are nothing to write about. So I won’t. I’m playing a lot less online, sticking with $15 to $25 tournaments maybe four or five times a week. As I play more live, the appeal of online poker diminishes as I find I need to play tighter and with that comes the boredom of grinding. It definitely requires a different headspace.
