Over Indulging

I’ve been playing poker all over the place and it’s caused an imbalance in my life that I don’t like. Gratefully I’m only down about a hundred bucks since the beginning of the year. Makes for a cheap hobby.

I’m going to only play one tournament a day. The cost would be about the same as getting a cortado and cinnamon bun at my local coffee shop. Both are equally enjoyable – depending on the day.

So today was my first tournament. I got knocked out early so I stopped playing and logged out. This will be a challenge as I have a lot of free time as a retiree. I need to look at other projects. Then it struck me. I need to look at poker as project oriented activity. The project needing completing being the tournament. It’s not about winning or losing, it’s about completing the project to the best of my ability.

As I type this the pang to play has subsided.

When I think of poker now, knowing that there is no opportunity until tomorrow, I start to think of projects I can do.

I wonder if this is a shift and will it hold.
